Boeing leads Airbus in jet orders through February | HeraldNet.com – Aerospace blog

March 9, 2012

The Boeing Co. has a wide lead over rival Airbus in terms of jet orders so far this year.

The Chicago-based company had 385 net orders at the end of last month, compared to Airbus’ 91. The European jet maker posted its latest tally on its website Friday.

Boeing’s lead is not a surprise. The company is finalizing tentative orders for its re-engined 737 MAX, which was launched last year. The bulk of Boeing’s orders through February are for the 737 with 13 orders for the 787 and four for the 767.

Airbus had the better sales year in 2011, since it was lining up orders for the A320 neo, which was launched at the end of 2010.

The companies are tied in terms of aircraft deliveries in the first two months of the year. Both have handed over 84 jets to customers.
